On the first day, it is blowing and snowing and everything is presenting in innumerous shades of white…
…und am nächsten Tag erstrahlt die Pracht in aller Ruhe.
…and the next day appears in calm and perfect beauty.
Bei traumhaftem, relativ warmem Winterwetter machte ich heute einen kleinen Aufstieg auf den “Hausberg” – und das ohne Schneeschuhe oder Tourenski Ausrüstung!
I enjoyed a short excursion on a public holiday in this exceptional pleasant winter landscape and weather. Starting point: my front door (downtown Tenna, Switzerland). Equipment: hiking boots. Trail mix: Cranberries (juicy) and Blueberries (dried) – both on the vine. Destination: “Schlüechtli” mountain, elevation 2283 m/7000 ft.

This is the panorama looking north. To the left the Signina Group. In the centre the Rhine river and hardly visible the Grand Canyon of Switzerland (Ruinaulta), behind it the ski resorts of Flims, Laax Falera (The White Arena – Crap Sogn Gion – Vorab Glacier). To the right the lower part of the Rhine valley and the city of Chur.

In the midsection, the peaks from the ski resorts of Heinzenberg, Lenzerheide, Arosa, and Davos, all lined up in neat rows (from front to back – dark to white). Unter the sun, Piz Beverin and the peaks of Nature Park Beverin and Nature Park Ela. To the right, the Signina Group.
Bei einem kurzen Spaziergang habe ich diese alte Weide entdeckt, die auf den ersten Blick voller Schneekügelchen war. Das erwarte ich auch Mitte Januar. Bei genauerer Betrachtung stellte es sich heraus, dass die jedoch Weidenkätzchen sind.
Diese alte Weide, die auf 1680 müM steht, scheint sich – nach Aussage der Bauernfamilie im Oberhus – jedes Jahr sehr früh auf die Blüte vor zu bereiten, ohne dass ihr der Frost und der Schnee etwas anhaben.
On a short hike, I encountered this old willow. At first sight it was decorated with tiny snowballs. I would at least expect that in the middle of January. However, upon closer inspection, these were all catkins.
This old willow, growing at above 5,500 feet elevation, seems to prepare for the bloom very early each year, according to the farmers nearby. Frost and snow do not seem to bother the old tree.
