Radio RTR hat am letzten Freitag einen Beitrag über das Projekt “Alte Sennerei” in Tenna auf romanisch ausgestrahlt. Damit können wir die regionale Bevölkerung über Kultur- und Sprachgrenzen hinweg erreichen.

Der Verein Tenna Hospiz wagt sich, auf Anraten der jüngeren Mitglieder, einen Teil der Finanzen um das Projekt Tenna Hospiz realisieren zu können, über eine Crowdfunding Kampagne zu sammeln.

Die Kampagne ist bei www.lokalhelden.ch aufgeschaltet. Wir suchen deine Mitarbeit: Erstens müssen wir rechtfertigen, dass die Kampagne auch gefragt ist. Das heisst wir müssen mindestens 100 Fans mobilisieren, die kund tun, dass sie die Idee und das Vorhaben wichtig finden. Erst dann wird die Finanzierungsphase frei geschaltet.

The Tenna Hospice Association has initiated a crowdfunding campaign to boost the financing for the Tenna Hospice project. We are using a Swiss website, and the content is in German only. However, you can set English subtitles to our promotional video.
We need you: please register and log in at www.lokalhelden.ch, and become a fan of the project “A foundation for the Tenna Hospice”. We need at least 100 fans as soon as possible in order to start the actual funding phase of the campaign.
The crowdfunding platform will accept credit card payments. For other international donations, please contact the Tenna Hospice Association. There is a contact form on the website!
Christmas as a feast day is intended to remind us of the worldly presence of the divine Light, at the same time as the return of the longer daylight hours for those who live in the northern hemisphere.
More than forty years ago, I crafted the figurines for this simple nativity scene. The figurines survived in a box in my parents’ attic. I am glad they came out to see the light again.
It is tied straw work, a technique popular in german-speaking areas. It was made from a renewable and affordable resource for all.

Weihnachten ist ein Festtag der uns daran erinnern soll dass das göttliche Licht auch auf Erden präsent ist. Gleichzeitig markiert das Fest auch die länger werdenden Tage für die Leute die auf der nördlichen Halbkugel zu Hause sind.
Vor mehr als vierzig Jahren habe ich diese einfachen Krippenfiguren hergestellt. Alles was es dazu brauchte waren Strohhalme und Faden. Die Figuren haben in einer Schachtel im Estrich meiner Eltern überdauert. Ich bin froh, dass sie nun wieder ans Licht gekommen sind.

A hermit lived in a simple dwelling outside city limits. He was revered as a holy ascetic; many people were seeking his advice. Even the head of government became aware of him. She wanted to get to know this man. One day, she appeared in front of the cabin and asked him, whether he wanted to move up to her stately house.
“If you think so”, replied the hermit, “I will follow you anywhere.”
The head of government was surprised, but did not loose her composure. She did not anticipate that the hermit would accept her offer. Would a true ascetic not have to refuse such an offer? The head of government had some doubt. But, because she made the offer, she took the man to her stately house where she arranged for a beautiful and comfortable room and a delicious meal.

It was the most beautiful day to arrive in Schüpfheim. Or as the Swiss would say: It was a weather like on a postcard. Brilliant sunshine and deep blue sky over a snow-covered landscape. I fully understand all the families that got the skis out of their basements or attics to make a few runs down a hill!

Yesterday, I had the good luck of making another journey, within the city of Philadelphia. Through a friend of a friend, I received an invitation for dinner with strangers. But there was nothing strange about meeting the people I have never met before.
Except that I took a bus to get to the railway station, which is not so strange, but the bus followed the trolley lines. And except that the railway station was full of books, and the railway was long ago replaced by a suburban trolley. Had I spent browsing through the 50,000 books at the railway station, I could have found one that would explain the transportation history of Philadelphia and how the traffic patterns have changed over time.
After all, I was close to where the former summer White House was. Before the capitol was built in Washington, the government governed from Philadelphia, but when it was too hot and the mosquitos were too fierce, the government went up the hill to Germantown to conduct its business. And not far from the centre of power, a few German immigrants and Quakers were so upset about witnessing the everyday business of slavery, that they wrote a letter of protest to the government.
I consider myself blessed for the friendship and hospitality I received. It also gave me opportunity to experience some places of United States history along the way.
