Diesen Sommer nahm ich mir Zeit das Herzstück des Naturparks Beverin zu erkunden. Von Thalkirch im Safiental bin ich los marschiert um entlang des Höllgrabens aufzusteigen Richtung Alperschälli. Hier ein Blick zurück auf den Talabschluss des Safientals. Die Vegetation zeigte sich im saftigsten grün.
Oberhalb von 2500 Metern wurde die Pflanzenwelt zwar weniger üppig, doch überhaupt nicht weniger spektakulär. Die hochalpinen Pioniere blühten in voller Pracht. Links die Pizzas d’Anarosa, rechts im Bild das Schwarz- und Gelbhorn (von der Sonne beleuchtet). Im Ausschnitt dazwischen die Gipfel des Valsertales im zukünftigen Park Adula.
Hier der Ort meiner Mittagsrast und gleichzeitig der Übergang vom Safiental ins Schams. In der Mitte wieder die Pizzas d’Anarosa, rechts davon der Blick zurück übers Alperschälli ins Safiental, links davon der Ausblick über die Alpen am Schamserberg Richtung Wergenstein. Einfach beeindruckend.
Hier der Ausblick vom zweiten Passübergang Richtung Rheinwald, dem Avers, und Italien. Die nächste Station von hier war die SAC Hütte von Cufercal. Danach besuchte ich noch eine Rinderalp, die Yak Herde, und die Heuberge einer befreundeten Familie, die mich zum Ausruhen aufnahm.

I can translate the last sentence here and get enough of your summer wanderlust through the alpine to appreciate what you are doing and seeing. The mountains look quite bare of snow. That is true here too by the Pacific Ocean, both the Olympic Mts across the Strait and the mountains on the Island. Lots of winter snow but a very early warm spring has melted much of it already. Drought conditions on the south part of the Island. Still, lots of sun has been very welcome day by day. I hope your holiday continues beautiful and re-creative. LLynne in Victoria, BC

and around the small lakes halfway across the park, there were huge toads. At first it looked like some of the rocks were just bouncing in front of me…

thank you for your kind words and greetings from half way around the globe. Here in Switzerland we had very little snow and quite late – there were actually only a few snow patches left on my walk in the park. As you can see from the first panorama, vegetation is very lush due to above average summer rains. It seems to be beneficial for amphibians: There were dozens of alpine salamanders on the trail on the way up,
I had some deja-vu experiences in this high alpine landscape. At some point the rocks and the vegetations looked exactly like pictures I took while stationed in Ikaluktutiak on Victoria Island/Nunavut. There it was at sea level, here it was more than 2600 meters/8500 feet above sea level.
