2.1.1. Die Liebe

Gott ist die Liebe. 

Ein provokanter Einstieg – aber ein wichtiger für mich um die Liebe zu verstehen. Heute wird Liebe eher als Ware betrachtet, etwas von dem der Mensch hat und gehalten ist sorgfältig damit um zu gehen, denn eine solche Ressource ist ja irgendwann mal ausgeschöpft – also ja nicht allzu dick auftragen. Das entspricht nicht meiner Sichtweise. Die Liebe ist eben wie das Göttliche – nämlich unerschöpflich. Was limitiert zu sein scheint, ist die menschliche Fähigkeit damit um zu gehen, das heisst die Fähigkeit zu geben und zu empfangen.

Assumption of Mary?

This day we are gathered to celebrate the feast day of the Assumption of Mary into Heaven:

The bodily taking up of the Virgin Mary into heaven at the end of her earthly life, as it was long accepted by the faithful and frequently depicted in art, as on the main altar in the church of the Capuchin friary in Schwyz (Switzerland), was relatively recently defined as church dogma in the Roman Catholic Church by Pope Pius XXII in 1950.
For the painter, it was likely an appreciation for and recognition of an exceptional woman, the mother of historic Jesus – an expression of the experienced holiness of Mary.

In Christianity, holiness is the place where the profane and the sacred meet, “a religious experience, which is based on extraordinary strengths held by human being that give him or her special religious authority” (Filoramo, 2013).

Mariä Himmelfahrt?

Heute sind wir hier versammelt, um das Fest Mariä Himmelfahrt zu feiern:

Viele Leute fahren am einem Festtag vielleicht ins Tessin, …Umweltbewusste fahren mit dem Zug, …andere fahren auf etwas Bestimmtes ab. Aber “himmelfahren” ist nicht mehr etwas allgemein Verständliches in meinem Sprachgebrauch.

Die leibliche Aufnahme Marias in den Himmel, wie sie lange im Verständnis des gläubigen Volkes verankert war und bildlich dargestellt ist zum Beispiel am Hochaltar der Kapuzinerkirche Schwyz, ist erst vor wenigen Jahrzehnten als Glaubenssatz der katholischen Kirche festgelegt worden (Papst Pius XII, 1950).
Für den Maler war die Szene wohl ein Ausdruck der Wertschätzung und Anerkennung für eine aussergewöhnliche Frau, für die Mutter des historischen Jesus – ein Ausdruck für die erlebte Heiligkeit Marias.

Die Heiligkeit ist im Christentum ein Ort wo das Profane und das Sakrale zusammenkommen, “eine religiöse Erfahrung, die auf der Annahme beruht, dass die ausserordentlichen Kräfte, die ein Mensch besitzt, ihr oder ihm besondere religiöse Autorität verleiht” (Filoramo, 2013)

A hermit lived in a simple dwelling outside city limits. He was revered as a holy ascetic; many people were seeking his advice. Even the head of government became aware of him. She wanted to get to know this man. One day, she appeared in front of the cabin and asked him, whether he wanted to move up to her stately house.

“If you think so”, replied the hermit, “I will follow you anywhere.”

The head of government was surprised, but did not loose her composure. She did not anticipate that the hermit would accept her offer. Would a true ascetic not have to refuse such an offer? The head of government had some doubt. But, because she made the offer, she took the man to her stately house where she arranged for a beautiful and comfortable room and a delicious meal.

En route – melancholic morning blues

Heute bin ich in einer ganz melancholischen Stimmung aufgewacht. Plötzlich fehlte mir ein Ort wo ich mich zu Hause fühle. Ein Ort wo ich mein Waschlappen und Handtuch an einem bestimmten Haken aufhänge und da hängen lassen kann bis zum nächsten Gebrauch. Ein Ort wo ich selber Essen zubereite, das Geschirr wasche, und aufräumen darf.
Es ist ja nicht so dass irgendetwas fehlen würde. Übernachten in der Jugendherberge ist sehr bequem. Auch meine Zimmernachbarn sind sehr rücksichtsvoll, keiner schnarcht. Da heisst ich kann relativ gut schlafen. Das Frühstücksbuffet ist reichlich und entspricht meinen Essgewohnheiten.
Aber, es fehlt schon nur das Ritual vom Kaffee machen am Morgen. Ich bin mir schon lange bewusst wie wichtig für mich die Gewohnheit ist nach dem Aufstehen hin zu gehen zum Kochherd, den italienschen Espresso Macher zu füllen und zusammen zu schrauben, und dann zu warten auf das erlösende Geräusch, das unvergleichliche Rauschen das für mich so etwas bedeutet wie „auf geht´s – ein neuer Tag wartet auf mich!”

Obedience – Gehorsam

Obedience is very often understood in relation to the fact that one gives orders and others obey. Obedience is of great importance in hierarchical systems, such as the army, where obedience is imperative and non-obedience leads to punishment. The same is true in the church, where obedience is a special virtue and leads to salvation. Non-obedience is a guide to hell in various church organizations and denominations. But even the seemingly value-free market economy demands absolute obedience. According to proponents of a neo-liberal economic paradigm, influencing the invisible market forces will only lead to misfortune: therefore are government regulations, and other considerations and interventions for the common good responsible for all the ills of today’s consumer society. A call for lateral love from down under

Today I learned through a follower of this blog about an important indigenous healing initiative in Australia. It is called Lateral Love Australia and is intended to explore and help overcome the opposite of lateral love: Lateral violence.

Lateral violence happens when people who are both victims of a situation of dominance, in fact turn on each other rather than confront the system that oppresses them both.

I was touched by this initiative. I have witnessed many instances where people in marginalized communities I served in were hurting each other. Instead of pulling together towards healing from various forms of colonial trauma, people engage in acts of lateral violence (gossip, bullying, blaming, alcoholism, drug use, domestic violence, suicide). This only creates more hurt and pain, helps reinforce stereotypes, and perpetuates racism.
